From Me to You

YSN is a community of incredible individuals: our students, bright and hard working; our faculty, scholars and mentors; our staff, dedicated and caring. Many of these individuals find opportunities to give back to the New Haven community.

Throughout the year our students' activities in the community range from volunteering at the free HAVEN clinic, DESK (Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen) and at Career High School. In each of these places, they provide care and education to needy members of our community.

YSN faculty also give to the community. New Haven's high school students learn to cope with loss through an art therapy program established by a YSN faculty member. Another faculty member fights pollution and promotes improving our local environment to improve health and safety for New Haven residents. Pregnancy prevention and working with teen mothers in the New Haven Public School district is the passion of another.

Our staff members take part in a coordinated effort with the Office of International Students and Scholars to collect winter outerwear for Yale's international population of students, faculty and their families not prepared for our New England winters. Our staff representative to the United Way is busy connecting with faculty to collect for this year's drive. Another staff activity has been to trim YSN's holiday tree with woolens for the children of Scared Heart/St. Peter's school and the homeless adults of Columbus House.

As 2006 comes to an end, we can reflect upon many good deeds. Collectively, we continue to advance the mission of our school, "better health care for all." Our community needs us now more than ever.
