About

Having begun my career as a midwife at the Yale School of Nursing in 1977 it is with great joy I return after twenty years. Since leaving, I have been caring for women and their families in New England in a variety of settings from high risk, tertiary care to women birthing at home. I believe all women have the right to high quality care throughout their lives. It is morally imperative we give to others in direct proportion to our abilities. Our superior education and our connectedness with women mandates midwives set the standard for healthcare. Being at YSN allows me to increase my connectedness by continuing to care for women as well as to participate in the education of future providers and in return to learn from them.

Teri Stone-Godena practices full-scope midwifery at Yale New Haven Hospital and is a Lecturer in the Nurse-Midwifery track at Yale School of Nursing. She received her Masters degree in Nursing with a Certificate in Nurse-Midwifery from St. Louis University in 1976. She has developed and run 5 practices including developing business plans, practice guidelines and quality management programs. Teri has a particular clinical interest in the care for Southeast Asian women having worked with them for the last 18 years. Arising from work she had done in quality management and in response to a need identified by new midwifery graduates for more experience before functioning independently, Teri developed a Nurse-Midwifery internship program which served as a bridge for new graduates or those returning after a break in experience. The program provided 3-6 months of individualized learning plans, intensive supervision and a graduated increase in complexity and responsibility for management. Teri has served as a legal nurse expert for the last five years, evaluating quality of care for both plaintiff and defense attorneys.
