YSN rises to #6 on the list of NIH Awards to Schools of Nursing!

New Haven, CT — June 24, 2005

In May of 2005, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued its 2004 rankings in which the nursing institutions that have received support for research, training and fellowship activities are listed. Yale's School of Nursing was listed as #6. "This rise, from #48 in 1994, is an extraordinary accomplishment, and reflects the caliber of YSN faculty," said Acting Dean Katherine Jones. "We have much of which to be proud. This particular success is quite stunning given its achievement in such a brief period of time," she said.

In 1994, when the school's leadership committed to the development of a doctoral program, they also committed to the development and support of a research-intensive environment. Investments included opening the Office of Research Affairs, hiring an Associate Dean for Research Affairs, adding incremental research support staff, and dedicating space and equipment. Over time YSN has recruited numerous faculty who are important contributors to the School's research environment, both for their teaching contributions and their own research activity. Over the last decade, YSN has grown in quality and quality. "The current ranking is a strong reminder of the School's commitment to better health care for all people and our track record of success," said Margaret Grey, the Annie Goodrich Professor of Nursing Research and Associate Dean for Scholarly Affairs at YSN.
