YSN will host the 2008 International Centre for Nursing Ethics Conference


New Haven, CT — February 25, 2008

Yale University School of Nursing will host the 2008 International Centre for Nursing Ethics Conference, July 17 to 19, in New Haven, Connecticut.

Nurse ethicists from six continents submitted abstracts for the conference. More than 100 nurses are expected to attend, including scholars from Brazil, China, Japan, South Korea, Canada, South Africa, Denmark, Russia and Turkey.

The theme of the conference is Nursing Ethics and Health Care Policy: Bridging Local, National and International Perspectives. Panelists submit reports prior to the conference, and then attend sessions for discussion and questions with conference attendees.

Topics include workforce issues including international migration, health care reform and access to care, end of life policy, methods for ethical analysis of policy, challenges of technology, addressing lifestyle issues including obesity and smoking, resource allocation, business ethics in health care, political advocacy and vulnerable populations, and ethics leadership.

Speakers include Tom Murray, president of the Hastings Center;  Carol Taylor, director, Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University; Leyla Dinc, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey; Alexey Brasnikov, dean of Advanced Nursing, Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy.

Co-sponsoring the conference is the Yale University's Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics and the Yale Center for International Nursing Scholarship and Education.  The International Centre for Nursing Ethics is based at the University of Surrey in England and is associated with the journal Nursing Ethics.
