YSN Faculty Presented With Nightingale Awards

New Haven, CT — June 2, 2008

Three Yale University School of Nursing (YSN) faculty were recently awarded prestigious Nightingale Awards at a special recognition dinner and awards gala held on May 8 at the Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford.

The YSN faculty members recognized for their outstanding service included:

• Associate Professor Heather Reynolds, MSN, CNM, FACNM, nominated by Yale University School of Nursing. Heather provides a broad spectrum of services including health promotion, reproductive and prenatal, labor and delivery care.  She speaks with the wisdom gained from her role as a midwife who has cared for two generations of young women having their babies at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

• Associate Professor Patricia Ryan-Krause, MS, RN, MSN, PNP. nominated by Yale University School of Nursing, A long standing faculty member, Patricia has distinguished herself as a teacher, practitioner and clinical scholar of the highest caliber.  In the community, Pat has traveled to Nicaragua to provide care and develop programs for disadvantaged children and families.

• Assistant Professor Linda Pellico, APRN, PhD, nominated by Sigma Theta Tau International - Delta Mu Chapter. Incisive and intuitive, Linda has an ability to instill confidence in staff, patients and families.  She always stands up for the right thing to do, even when it is not popular with the administration. Over the years she has transferred this strength to many other nurses and is a tribute to all who continue to stay in nursing to impact patient care.

This year's gala also emphasized the need for increasing the ranks of nursing educators.  The current shortage of nursing school educators has forced Connecticut nursing schools to turn away qualified applicants. The 2008 Nightingale Awards shed a positive light on the role of those in education and the intangible rewards derived from giving back to the profession.
